Jolene Morgan, born and raised in Bismarck and living on a farm at Driscoll, had a 35-year career as a hairdresser. For 5 years she was a cosmetology instructor at Josef's School of Hair Design in Bismarck.
When she turned 50, she decided to make a career change. She wanted to do something for fun, something she really enjoyed. She had always loved rocks, shells, and semi-precious stones. They had been her hobby, but they were soon to become much more.
In 1986, Jolene finally made her move. She left teaching and began to design & assemble semi-precious stone Jewelry at her home. She then went on the road & sold her creations to jewelry stores in a 3-state area. Life on the road was expensive. When a girlfriend told her that she had space available in her shop on Main, Jolene looked it over. She found the space to be small, cozy, & affordable. With a very limited budget, Treasures of Sea & Earth was born on July 7, 1988.
She carries many unique items that would delight any shopper. The inventory includes semi-precious stone jewelry designed primarily by Jolene: the largest selection of seashells in the greater upper Midwest; and a rock shop includes polished and rough crystals, agates, flint, minerals, and metaphysical stones for the collector and new ager.
Not to be forgotten are the many beads of all kinds that are also part of the inventory. Jolene says that they carry over 6,000 different kinds of beads and growing all the time.
Jolene also creates the majority of the crafts displayed on her walls. Seashell creations for that, at the beach touch.
Jolene has been an avid rock and sea shell collector since childhood. She got her daughters hooked on rocks when they were little, and now they share her passion for stones, and work with her in the store.
Manager, Brenda Morgan (Daughter), has been designing and making jewelry for the last 20 years.
They also have part time help from Jacquelyn Kitzen(Daughter) who lives in Richardton, ND.
Jolene has one other daughter, Barbara Bushard(real estate agent) who lives in St Paul, MN and works with her there when on business jaunts.
Treasures of Sea & Earth has been in the downtown area for the past 20 years and since Jolene has decided to retire, Treasures is scaling down a bit and will be taken over by her daughter Brenda. Treasures of Sea and Earth has moved to their new location at 609 Memorial Hwy between Soup Cafe and The Sandbar Bar in Bismarck.
